Debz DeFreitas

Research Associate

Debz DeFreitas received her M.S. in Chemical Oceanography in 1988 from Texas A&M University. She has participated in numerous oceanographic research projects including the Texas-Louisiana Shelf Circulation and Transport Processes Study (LATEX A) and is currently a member of the data management team for the Cooperative Research on Sperm Whales and Their Response to Seismic Exploration in the Gulf of Mexico Study (SWSS). Debz is responsible for all data generated by Resource Geosciences including managing GERG’s geochemical database of over 7,000 cores collected over the past 20 years. Her technical interests include Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the management, analysis and display of data. Her current research interests include the geochemistry of gas hydrate and she has over 20 publications and presentations on the subject. She serves as Quality Assurance Manager for Environmental Sciences projects.
