| The GERG/UT Antarctic science team started sampling yesterday using the divers. Had some problems with the deep site and the time needed to complete the entire sampling. Have reworked that strategy to allow more efficient use of the bottom time. Will drill 2 large holes, one at the deep station and one at the middle station on each trasect. Divers (Kelly Hance and Rob Robbins) will each do a dive at the deep site to get all samples. Then they can do the shallower stations in the afternoon. Did start sampling yesterday and ran E. coli and microtox. Also needed to modify the larger cores to effectively perserve the sediment column structure. We are going back to the ice today to finish the transect if the weather cooperates. G.Denoux |
