Tuesday
was a very productive day. In the morning we sampled the marine Station
23. The divers collected sediment samples, some bivalve samples (Laternula
elliptica), and some fish samples (Trematomus bernacchii and Trematomus
pennelii). Water samples and a CTD cast were also collected from this station.
The remaining six holes were drilled by Ralph using the Reed Drill (see
photo). In the afternoon, we continued our sub-grid intensive sampling scheme
at two 5 meter grids (25 samples each grid). The first grid was between
two tanks adjacent to the refueling station and around the refueling station
(see figure with sample locations plotted). The original sampling program
consisted of 100 meter regional grids and 25 meter local grids, the 5 meter
grids will provide more fine scale detail and provide information on sub-grid
(less than 25 meter) variability.
