Station MT6

GYRE arrived on Station MT6 at 20:14 GMT on June 4, 2000 and we finished all sampling at 23:49 GMT on June 5, 2000. The boxcores from this 2750-m deep station had a grainy forminiferan base followed by a narrower band of rough orange clay (iron) and below it there was a thick substrate of very hard clay. We completed two camera tows due to loss of battery power during the first tow which did not produce any images. The second underwater digital camera tow was successful and captured a total of 28 images including ones portraying sea cucumbers, a brittle star, and some trash. We had a trawl consisting of mainly iron stone and the attached picture (A) shows Dr. Rowe sifting through all the iron for organisms of interest. Photo B depicts Lindsey Loughy holding a Macrouridae from the trawl.
