Station S44

At 215 meters in depth, Station S44 was one of the shallowest stations sampled on the DGoMB cruise this far. Gyre arrived at this station on June 11, 2000 at 00:16 GMT and all of the sampling was completed by 7:55 GMT on June 11, 2000. The mud retrieved with the boxcore was rather sandy and the cores were shallow. We had an extremely interesting trawl because a missile was caught in the tickler chain of the trawl net. Archie Ammons was pointing out the serpulids (worms) living on the missile when the attached photo (A) was taken. The trawl also brought up a live angle shark which was released upon identification.
