Station S40

The GYRE arrived on Station S40 at 9:13 GMT on June 7, 2000 and we finished all sampling at 10:40 GMT on June 8, 2000. This station was 2970 m in depth and the underwater camera images depicted a turbid bottom which was verified with the dirty filters of the bottom water samples. The trawl net was packed with mud (A). As the mud was washed away we found many shells (B), fish, seastars, sea cucumbers, and trash. Clif Nunnely, the midnight to noon watchleader, is shown retrieving some of the trash from the trawl (C).
