Station MT1

Gyre arrived on Station MT1 at 12:27 GMT on June 17, 2000 and we completed all sampling at 21:39 GMT on June 17, 2000. A 20-foot whale shark was spotted off of the port bow while we were bringing the trawl net back to the surface. The trawl catch consisted of mussels, crabs, shrimp, sea anemones, and lots of fish including a chain dogfish (attached photo). This is the last station of the second leg where all four sampling devices will be deployed. We will be returning to previous stations to trawl and capture images of bottom sea life in several basins of the western Gulf of Mexico.
