GYRE arrived on Station C12 at 9:26 GMT on June 2, 2000 and we finished all sampling at 13:08 GMT on June 3, 2000. We caught many interesting specimens in the trawl including sea-cucmbers, glass sponges, shrimp, several gorgonians, many scaphopods and we also retrieved lots of trash consisting of plastics, glass, and wood. Both fish shown below were caught in the trawl. We had to add extra weight to the boxcore so that it could penetrate the hard bottom at 2920 m. The underwater digital camera captured a giant sea cucumber and the pictures also indicated the presence of a current.
