DGoMB Cruise 2 Station MT1

Sunday 3 June, 2001
Station MT1, which is located among many oilrigs off the Louisiana Coast, was the first survey site sampled on the second DGoMB cruise. The site averaged 480 meters in depth and we finished sampling within 14 hours of starting at 5 pm on June 2, 2001. First we tested the new CTD rosette and the first of five boxcores followed. The attached picture features Dr.Gil Rowe and Lindsey Loughry removing core liners from the boxcore and Andy Hbert standing by with caps. The underwater camera successfully captured 46 images of the seafloor and related fauna at this station. The CTD was cast again and we recovered water samples with 14 bottles. The trawl net captured many of the same organisms that we saw last year at this station including lots of mussels, sea anemones, fish, and a small octopus. We're now heading to our first process station, MT3.
