The Deep Gulf of Mexico Benthos Cruise

Logistics in Port Aransas
May 22, 2000

General remarks: The GYRE will dock at Harbor Island. This is off the causeway between Aransas Pass on the mainland and Port Aransas. Coming off of 35 in Aransas Pass, take a left at the HEB. That takes you out on the causeway toward Port Aransas. Take a left just after the last bridge. If you get to the ferry, you have gone a little too far. The pot-holed road to the left after the bridge takes you to the docks and you will see the GYRE tied up somewhere along there. We hope to get to the dock by mid to late afternoon on the 24th. If we have time we will go directly to the fuel dock. The boat will remain in close proximity to this area throughout the port stop. Brian Jones will be driving down from College Station departing the Ocean. Bldg. loading dock about 10 am on the 25th (unless he has changed this in my absence). This van (the OGC van) will return to College Station on the 25th. Right now Aurelion Guichard (grad. stu. in Ocean. Engineering) will drive it back. Other plans are in the works for getting to and from the ship, but I am leaving them up to individual components or shipops to arrange. We intend to depart on Sunday, the 28th, at 10 am. I hope this helps in your planning.
