Station W6

GYRE arrived on Station W6 at 5:01 GMT on May 17, 2000 and finished all sampling at 18:00 GMT on May 17, 2000. At 3145 m, this is the deepest station that we've sampled so far and it is located off of the Sigsbee Escarpment on the abyssal plain. The station W6 is on the edge of the United States exclusive economic zone. We found a big glass sponge in the fourth box core at this station. We had a successful run with the digital camera, but we were not able to trawl due to loss of power of the hydro-winch.
