Station NB3

Gyre arrived at Station NB3 at 3:09 GMT on May 8, 2000 and completed all sampling at 20:08 GMT on May 8, 2000. It was a non-basin location in water depths of 1850m. Molpadia oolitica, a sea cucumber, represented the only megafauna found in one of the five box cores at station NB3. The attached deck shot portrays Chris Gudeman in the trawl net removing the organisms from the net. This station's trawl catch was quite abundant and included one fish we were unable to identify. The fish has a large "upper Jaw" with long teeth and a "light organ"(?) in the middle (visible on ventral view). It has a smaller "lower jaw" creating a sub-terminal mouth and it also has long recurved teeth. The fish has small eyes just posterior to articulation point of the upper and lower jaws. No operculum or pelvic fins were observed.
