Station B3
|
Gyre arrived on Station B3 at 3:29 GMT on May 10, 2000 and finished all sampling at 23:54 GMT on May 10, 2000. B3 is located in Vaca Basin at a depth of 2600m. Unfortunately, as can happen with research equipment at sea, we lost our CTD and water sampling rosette to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We have another one on board to deploy at the next station. We moved the location of this station slightly southeast as longline gear was placed in the original site. The digital underwater camera was not deployed at this station due to the loss of the pinger with the CTD. The pinger allows us to track the position of over-the-side instruments in the water column, which is critical for keeping them safely above the bottom. Arrangements to get a new pinger sent out are underway. |
